This Privacy Policy describes how Kitchen ("we", "our", or "the App") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application.

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Your name (display name)

• Authentication credentials (managed securely through Firebase Authentication or Google Sign-In)

User-Generated Content

When you use the App, you may provide:

• Recipes (titles, descriptions, ingredients, instructions)
• Photos (recipe images, step-by-step photos, "I Made This" comment photos)
• Comments and discussions
• Difficulty ratings and upvotes
• Saved/bookmarked recipes

Imported Content

When you import recipes from external sources (websites, social media platforms), we process:

• URLs you provide for recipe import
• Web page content fetched from those URLs for recipe extraction
• Audio/video content for transcription purposes
• The source platform and original URL for attribution

Automatically Collected Information

We may collect basic usage data such as app interactions to improve the user experience. We do not track your location or collect device identifiers for advertising purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and manage your account
• Display your recipes and content to the community
• Enable social features (upvotes, comments, bookmarks, difficulty ratings)
• Import and extract recipes from URLs and social media platforms you provide
• Transcribe audio/video content to extract recipe information
• Translate recipes from other languages to English
• Estimate nutritional information (calories, glycemic index) for ingredients
• Improve and maintain the App

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the App:

Firebase (Google)

• Firebase Authentication: Manages user sign-up and login securely
• Cloud Firestore: Stores recipes, comments, user data, and app content
• Firebase Storage: Stores uploaded photos and images

Google Sign-In

If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from your Google account. See Google's Privacy Policy.

OpenAI

We use OpenAI's services for:

• Extracting recipe data from text, URLs, and web pages
• Transcribing audio/video content (Whisper API)
• Translating recipes to English
• Estimating nutritional information (calories, glycemic index)

Content sent to OpenAI is processed according to OpenAI's Privacy Policy. We send only the minimum content necessary for recipe extraction and do not send your personal account information to OpenAI.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Firebase cloud servers operated by Google. We use industry-standard security measures including:

• Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS)
• Secure authentication through Firebase Auth
• Access controls to protect your account data

While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. Your data may be shared in the following ways:

• Community Content: Recipes, comments, and photos you publish are visible to other users of the App
• Service Providers: With third-party services described above (Firebase, OpenAI) solely to operate the App
• Legal Requirements: If required by law or to protect our rights

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

• Access: View your recipes, comments, and profile information within the App
• Edit: Update your recipes and profile at any time
• Delete: Delete your recipes and content from the App
• Account Deletion: Request complete deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
